Janci Mannington

I am fascinated with nature and the curving, organic shapes that it contains in abundance – especially in flowers.  I enjoy making intimate portraits of nature on a grand scale using color, shapes, and lighting to create drama.  With a formal training in graphic design, I am not only interested in the main subject, but also the negative space around the subject and how the two combine to make a dynamic painting.  I enjoy translating an image in my own “language”, finding shapes in form and shadow and then exaggerating them.  I aim to create a powerful image to give the viewer a sense of the canvas glowing from within by employing a variety of techniques and materials, painting 2 to 3 thin layers of oil while burnishing the pigments into the canvas with natural red sable brushes.
