Jola Stephenson

Hello there, my name is Jola Stephenson, and I’ve been a resident of Edmonds since 1989. My inspiration for my painting comes to me as I walk along the beach, sail the islands and play in the mountains. Creating has always been a part of me, but was hidden by the busy lifestyle of caring for others. Digital photography opened up a new and exciting world for me. It was then I knew what was missing, and what I wanted to do for myself.

With the help and encouragement of life-time friends; to continue a form of art, I pursued classes in 2003 at Aria Studio Gallery. I continued to explore adult classes in many mediums at the Fry Art Museum of Seattle. During this time I put to good use the photographs I had been taking. By 2009, my giclée’s had sold and friends became interested in my work. In June of that year, my painting “Shell Creek” was accepted in the Edmonds Art Festival juried show. I have shown in other exhibitions at Ocean Shores and Edmonds Art Gallery. My work can presently be seen at Semantics Gallery in Edmonds, WA.

Today I am continuing my study in watercolor. It is inspirational and encouraging to be a part of a wonderful community of artists; in my hometown, Edmonds.
