Bronze is a perfect medium. The process takes months and the end result is like watching a newborn take its place in the world. I love the properties of metal, the way it sweats. I love to watch the molten bronze make its way into the investment, the way lava makes its way out of a volcano. I love to break the investment open while it’s still hot and watch the steam rise off the surface.
From places where the work is academic to abstract I find my voice in the emotion of each piece. I feel responsibility to convey emotion and to give vision where there was none.
Once someone asked me, “What do you mean to say by creating the figure?” And my answer to her was a question, “What do you suppose God means to say by creating human beings?” It has all been done before of course, yet, now it is being done by me, and somewhere in that is absolute perfection.
