Artist’s Statement
During the process of working on my environmental-sculptures, I realized a more concentrated study of woodworking was needed. My sculptural box making has been the result of furthering an exploration in woodworking while mixing different woods, materials, design and techniques. The wood itself presents a wonderful and varied palette from bold to gentle, subtle to striking. Woodworking to me is a dialogue between the architectural and the organic.
My work reflects my passion for environmental issues. Often it is composed of re-purposed materials collected over a long architectural design career. Found objects, collected bits of natural elements, colorful glass, fabric and many sketched ideas have been following me around for years. Each piece is a unique experiment – an exploration of ideas, techniques, craft and material that combine all aspects of my ideas and career.
