Painting is a process for me. While I was taught the fundamentals of drawing and painting in school I knew that I wanted to create works from my imagination rather than direct observation once I graduated. I have always felt an intimacy with nature and landscapes without the human element even though a large part of my training comprised the human figure. I feel that I draw most of my inspiration from emotions, spontaneity, and color theory. I really enjoy allowing my paintings to guide me, rather than me guiding them. I enjoy painting with layers and creating under paintings that seep through the surface layers as I wipe away paint to create elements in a composition. I have gravitated toward the abstract in several of my pieces over the past six years and I feel that I have truly achieved my vision through viewing and studying contemporary artists Barry Mastellar, Lloyd Blakely, as well as 19th century artist George Inness.
